Creativity Challenge 19 – Mask

Octameter, created by Shelley A. Cephas, is a poem made up of 16 lines divided into two stanzas of 8 lines each. Each line has a syllable count of 5. The set rhyme scheme is: a/b/c/d/e/d/f/d g/h/c/g/i/g/d/d.

she tried to sleep
lots of things in mind
different masks for her
to be a Jane Doe
far away from truth
keep away from foe
she wants to be free
please keep her in tow

not an easy prey
nor an easy ride
life is such a blur
her hair sprayed grey
should get an armour
needle in the hay
no facade to show
no one has to know

  1. Love the image you chose to join with your words. I think the word you want in the last line of the first verse, is tow, rather than toe. And in the second verse “needle in the hay”, would be better than “a”. Hay is plural, while a is singular. Thanks for staying with us,
