I am the king of the road

Don Naman Photography 2017

THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “‘I am the last…'” by Charles Simic: retreating, road, birch, mud, one-eyed, cut, saber, hair, clothes, lined, sell, waving

I am the king of the road
Road sometimes muddy far and wide
Wide away from the one-eyed monster
Monster who doesn’t know how to hide

With my long hair and cool clothes
Clothes that are lined and well cut
Cut the queue because I’m famous
Famous rock star, the best in the circuit

I’ll meet you by the birch tree
Tree with leaves all waving
Waving and selling tickets
Tickets for tonight with all the swing

From town to town, gig to gig
Gig that makes fans devoted
Devoted to songs I sing
Sing to my fans so avid*

In each stanza, the last word of the first line becomes the first word of line two, last word of line 2 becomes the first word of line 3, last word of line 3 becomes the first word of line 4. This is followed for each stanza. The rhyme scheme is abcb.
