November Yeats Challenge: Day Two

“… the dark folk who live in souls
Of passionate men, like bats in the dead trees;” —W.B. Yeats

Under the spirit of the night
Some fitful souls in battle fields
Hush to torments left unscathed
Fading sorrow

Beleaguered memories to sigh
Of future they will never have
Children’s laughter they will not hear
Poppies in fields

Days will come and turn into years
Memories still in our hearts
Of battles they have fought and won
For all of us
