Remembering my dad

dad-me

Remembering my dad on his birthday this week. It’s this time of the year that I miss my Dad the most. He passed away 19 years ago and every occasion like Christmas, birthdays or anniversaries, he’s dearly missed. He was the first one who would send anybody a card or would ring to greet on anybody’s birthday. He was a great cook – his kare-kare, dinuguan, kaldereta were to die for. He was a high-quality host – he would make anyone feel special by putting their needs first before his and the food and drink he would serve were second to none. He was a real charmer, very likeable and endearing. Another characteristic that I admired on him was his being a hard worker – he had a couple of jobs until the end of his life. He was diligent and dedicated to his job.

What do I miss about him? Our phone calls – once or twice a week we would ring each other and talked about everything and everyone. I would update him on what was happening to us; how his grandson was growing fast and what jobs and life here were like. He would tell us about what was happening on his side of the world. We laughed, we cried, we discussed and we argued. So wherever he was and I’m sure he’s looking down to us from time to time – Happy birthday in heaven!

Memories
Of our Dad still here
In our hearts
Beating loud
Happy birthday with this cake
Hoping for your peace

Placid palm
Asleep beneath shade
Your story
Ebony
Waiting to see you again
Sometime in future

Open door
Searching is over
Remember
All the love
Wish you were still with us
Rest in peace our Dad
