An image of By tranquil waters by Sydney Long 1894

“…till the morning break
And the white hush end all but the loud beat
Of their long wings, the flash of their white feet.” W.B. Yeats

The sorrow and joy interspersed
Of witches’ curse or vampire’s thirst
Amid the worn out beat of the drum
If given the choice, a carpe diem
Not a word has been uttered
Not a question has been answered
Like the world has just stood still
Writing of a quill, a dress with no frill
No grief, no sigh, no laughter
For now and the next days after
In the tranquillity of the night
Cannot help you with your plight
Of whispered dream or nightmare
Just think that you’re elsewhere

  1. A beautifully crafted poem, with strong and evocative imagery. It puts me in mind of my passion – the Middle Ages – it could have been written for a medieval lady. I love ‘Of whispered dream or nightmare’ – I often wish I was elsewhere – or elsewhen! Thanks for sharing, and well done.
