100 Word Wednesday: Week 138 – The kitchen in our apartment

THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “Magellan Street, 1974” by Maxine Kumin: until, apartment, stairs, flank, flamingos, kitchen, basil, garden, maps, sorrows, burn, cruise

The kitchen in our apartment
Now closed, used to be so charming
Basil and thyme in the garden
Smell of food I’m starving
The old kitchen, it is out on the escarpment

Some old painting of flamingos
Jazz band playing on Domingos
Cruising until the wee hour
With sorrows burning the flour
With maps on hand for the stairs and the windows

Serving a great flank of steak
Followed by Granny’s apple cake
Families come for their dinner
Their bourguignon, that’s the winner
Remembering all these and I’ve got my heartache*
