THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “Rebus” by Jane Hirshfield: work, grief, stubbornness, failed, bitter, honey, choose, understand, become, anvil, leans, enter

Want to understand what dawn signify
Like in a dreamland when I choose to cry
Don’t grieve! Don’t grieve! Enter with love
Become part of it like a dove
A new day, new hope, great for its farness
Don’t grieve and work on stubbornness

Like an anvil, dawn never fails to come
Starting to yawn in sleep I succumb
Don’t fail! Don’t fail! Though it’s bitter
Can you not see how it glitters?
Working on it for love or for money
Don’t fail for it is as sweet as honey*
