Friday Fictioneers – As the fire spreads

PHOTO PROMPT © Mikhael Sublett

As the fire spreads, we jumped out
Away from the choking smoke
Flew away from the burning grounds

Stories of hope without doubt
Help came from volunteer townsfolk
Forming a line, help in all sounds

Tried to fill water from the spout
Children crying and hungry blokes
The Jonses, Smiths and the Browns

And so nothing left, just handouts
A nightmare perhaps then I woke
And life is full of ups and downs

As we don’t know how life turns out
Count our blessing to bring about*
