Trapped in a maze I can’t go back
Alone and wrecked with world so black
Armed with nothing at all but doubt
Crawled on land and with a clout had panic attack
The last time I had depression
And I had a lot of questions
About my future and I saw none
Like I’ve done a hit-and-run, can’t do confession
Out of my hand and without hope
Things around me I cannot cope
Drawing out things from my stash
Chattering and with a rash to the great old globe*

* The Florette, created by Jan Turner, consists of two or more 4-line stanzas.
Rhyme scheme: a,a,b,a
Meter: 8,8,8,12
Fourth line requirement of internal (b) rhyme scheme, on syllable 8.
Like the outgrowing of a small flower, the forth line of each stanza is longer, and enwraps the previous lines. Line #4 requires an internal rhyme scheme that rhymes the eighth syllable with the end of line #3, and continues to add on four more syllables than the other lines so that the fourth line ends rhyming with lines #1 and #2.

You’ve described depression well. I like the form, where those 4 extra syllables can drive it home.

‘The last time I had depression’ is so loaded with layers. Does the protagonist see a difference between last time and now? Is it better or worse? It is the kind of poem which can lead to a story.
Thanks for joining, Lady Lee! Hope you are doing fine under the circumstances.
