OctPoWriMo Day 7 – Growing Pains

The ground beneath me begins to crumble

I’m left with nothing to hold on

Untill the storm begins to humble

I thought we were such a couple

But I was left alone to wait for the dawn

The ground beneath me begins to crumble

I have to admit, I’ve lost the battle

Causing pain in the heart when you were gone

Until the storm begins to humble

When I asked, you lied to grumble

It’s like experiencing the fall of Bataan

The ground beneath me begins to crumble

Towards the doors, you always fumble

No regrets, let bygone be bygone

Until the storm begins to humble

Forget the pain as I tumble

Lesson learned and I have to move on

The ground beneath me begins to crumble

Until the storm begins to humble*

A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.

The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).
