THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “A Week Before Christmas” by Mary Jo Salter: snaps, deck, gingerbread, thumbnail, spins, fable, icing, peppermints, crash, surprise, manger, torn
Anticipation is this week
When we bake some gingerbread and snaps
We thumbnail what we wanted to order for them
Glad even when the weather’s bleak
Happy when we icing the cake
Deck the halls and decorating the tree
Assembling the manger even some parts are torn
Surprise when we see snow flake
The time to spin some fable
For the children to hear virtually
And some of them what my mother used to tell us
Blessing, happy to be able
And later on in memory
Pleasure is still found in surprises
And as we light the candle for each Advent week
We give thanks, a past reverie*
