What do you see # 61 – Listen to our inner child

( For visually challenged reader, the image shows wall art. A woman is dressed in 1950’s style. A speech bubble next to her says, ” Listen to your inner child” There are cartoons and graffiti on the wall too)

Listen to our inner child

Wrapping paper in the snuggery

Fireplace, mittens and being wild

Hot cocoa and we make Granny smiled

Shiver and frost on a day so blustery

Listen to our inner child

Red and evergreen we’re all styled

Curiosity and full of discovery

Fireplace, mittens and being wild

Mug of tea when the weather’s mild

Great to have a star delivery

Listen to our inner child

Alms to the poor, good deeds compiled

We could also be naughty and roughly

Fireplace, mittens and being wild

We like our friends, with foes reconciled

Playing tough wearing our dungaree

Listen to our inner child

Fireplace, mittens and being wild*

A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.

The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).
