THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “The Night of the Snowfall” by Mo H. Saidi: snow, sluggish, fail, heart, moths, fireflies, dissolve, dawn, glow, smoke, blades, alight
He loves me, he loves me not
Little by little my heart’s in a knot
Feeling sluggish and sometimes tense
Moths and fireflies glow to my defense
It should be easy, and so I thought
Snow’s falling here on this spot
I fail to see dawn in a long shot
I seem to dissolve whence
He loves me
Smoke came and I forgot
Will he notice me, pain is fraught
We were young and insecure thence
It will be forgotten a year hence
In my mind I had sought
He loves me*

- A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short – a refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the same metrical length).
