What do you see # 77 – Light and hope

( For the visually challenged reader, the image shows a lantern sitting on the wet sand of a beach. There are fairy lights inside the lantern)

THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “When Love” by Alicia Ostriker: love, cuts, canyon, silt, revealed, layers, granite, washes, away, essential, carrying, floods

As the water washes away her tears

Tears that cut her heart

Heart that she thought as hard as granite

Granite no more when they were apart

She saw the lantern sitting on the wet sand

Sand of the beach with fairy lights

Lights carrying a message of hope

Hope for her if she’s strong to fight

Love and life have a lot of layers

Layers that were revealed slowly

Slowly as she discovers which are essential

Essential if she wants to survive wholly*

  • Loop Poetry is a poetry form created by Hellon. There are no restrictions on the number of stanzas nor on the syllable count for each line. In each stanza, the last word of the first line becomes the first word of line two, last word of line 2 becomes the first word of line 3, last word of line 3 becomes the first word of line 4. This is followed for each stanza. The rhyme scheme is abcb.
