Cars and Lorries Quotes

My sister and I swirl to greet

Stars in the night or empty street

Take a deep breath before I start

Driving mini is such an art

Some shadows on damp boulevard

Like a sketch of the avant-garde

Sparks of wisdom and so smart

Driving mini is such an art

Around the sun planets orbit

Red mini is like a target

And together we are one heart

Driving mini is such an art*

“Are we there yet, Mum?”

“We’re running late, kung-fu is starting…”

“Go, Mum, go, you shouldn’t wait for that lot!”

“It was very funny today, so and so said this…”

“Don’t change it, I want Energy – cool!”

And so on and so on. I miss that little guy. He used to sit with his Mum first thing in the morning, on the way to school, sometimes he was still half-asleep. And when we picked him up, he was full of beans, telling us what happened to school and who did what and who was silly and so on and so on. Sometimes, one or two friends came back with him home and they messed around at the back. Sometimes, he would stay with his friends overnight. Sometimes, we had to ferry him from one activity to the next – kung-fu, karate, football, guitar, squash, etc. My boot was usually full of his bits and pieces – smelly gym and football kits, squash racket, guitar, etc. He’s not little anymore, and he may be driving his own car but I still miss that little guy.

red mini is me
I am more than ten years old
I used to drive him
to school, back and everywhere
and now, just his Mum to work

Driving to the city with the silver side mirror
Objects are allowed to be nearer but blur
I am not keen on driving in the city
There’s always traffic to do my shopping spree
Sometimes the noise is like a drum pounding on
Every manoeuvre should always be dead on
Stick shift requires more skill than automatic
And with Him who is such a secret car critic
Better to stay in my comforting garden
And with my parrot’s rattling noise, it’s more fun
Driving to the city with the silver side mirror
Objects are allowed to be nearer but blur

“It’s snowing, it’s snowing!” A week after I’ve arrived in France, it started snowing. I couldn’t believe my eyes; the whole world was blanketed in white! It was so incredibly gorgeous and perfect, no footsteps in it, just lumps and bumps where plants sat in the gardens and cars entirely covered in snow. I was mesmerised. As soon as I’ve felt its powdery texture, I thought to myself, “This was the White Christmas people were dreaming about.” I couldn’t imagine that just a week ago, from sweltering morning – traffic starting to build up in Manila. The noise of cars, taxis, motorcycles, vans and jeepneys beeping and honking, children going to school and adults to work, street vendors selling taho (soya) or peanuts. Such a difference! A normal hectic day in Manila compared to a peaceful, snowy one in France.

first time to see snow
I could still remember it
I cried with joy

the snow has fallen
on branches and leaves of trees
I tried to taste it

Why can’t people be good or give it a burl?

Seasons come and go, goes bright and dark

Celebrate or just enjoy walking in the park

Flowers bloom, animals run free in the wild

Have an ice-cream that make us smile

Children get killed just watching fireworks

Why can’t we not accept people with their quirks?

Some irrational person drove his lorry through

Life is not fair, people dying in our full view

It hurled people and left them lying on the promenade

That wasn’t right, a system so fatally flawed

Is there a reason for all this, is the world indifferent?

Are the people so selfish and have lost their fair judgment?

To our needs, sufferings, are we dissimilar from the rest?

Societies don’t care, which left a lot of people depressed

Can we not fill the world with love instead of hate?

And when we’ve achieved that, life would be great!

Middle of city
Fun to work
Fun to shop
If only we could afford
Such is city life

Gloomy grey sky
Heavy clouds
Rush to work
Claustrophobia on the streets
Ticking of the clock

With high heels
Some business meetings
Men in suits
Cocktail drinks and hors d’oeuvre
Fast cars and fast world**

  1. Aww I love these Ladylee. Fabulous collection and I love the photos too. I think everyone that’s owned a mini (even the more troublesome ones) can’t deny the love for the mini. KL ❤

  2. This is a post to linger over and savor each little part, Lady Lee. I loved the story of your little guy. I can just picture this, “And when we picked him up, he was full of beans, telling us what happened to school and who did what and who was silly and so on and so on.” My mom was a great listener and Randy and I both enjoyed being full of beans. LOL. The video was interesting and a perfect ending to “drive us home.” The trip to France reminded me of the poem I’ve been rewriting and struggling with all day off and on about fog. Thanks for taking all this time to create and link this post, my friend. 🙂

    1. thank you, Marsha 🙂 that little guy is 30 years old now, married and happily living in the UK. The France story is real, when I first left the Philippines and the first time to see snow…. always my pleasure writing for your prompts…. enjoy the rest of your week, Marsha ❤
