THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “a fishing story” by Mia S. Willis: freak, hard, hold, cut, gasp, sand, legend, shawl, push, careful, catch, sea
Hard work and waking up early
No time to make my hair curly
Careful not to wake the baby up
But later will play catch with my pup
Breakfast of porridge with barley
Work in the farm with sister Shirley
And with Dad who’s big and burly
Don’t forget freak John as a backup
Hard work
Shawl for cold days, winter comes fairly
We push, we cut, our muscles sorely
We go to the sea for a wash and scrub
Mother gives us our bites and sup
Baby just had his first tooth so pearly
Hard work*

- A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short – a refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the same metrical length).
