By the mountain spring
Water wades like diamond
Bright and sunny day

We talk about the same things
Laugh about similar things
Closeness in our hearts

Just in other words
Conveying the same meaning
Great understanding

Departure – Heeding Haiku With Chèvrefeuille, April 12th 2017

departure

Of sunny dreams and bright future ahead

Of surviving against all odds and world

Weathering all types of hindrance and storms

Didn’t really matter, as long as there’s love

But as the days went by, things have changed

Pressure’s mounting and tempers getting frayed

Until we were leading different lives

There was betrayal and trust was broken

No other choice but to separate ways

Those were the days of being together

Now, just memories, no more us, farewell

No choice but to part

When love is no longer there

Departure from past

love-japanese-character

vessel of being one
with you we had some fun
years of shared memories
hiking and shopping sprees
not perfect but they’re ours
with them we write memoirs

vessel of commitment
when we become parents
we made a cosy home
felt secured not to roam
while together we grow
and with a son in tow

vessel of life and love
patience and all above
challenges we can take
in this life we both make
and so we carry on
like the sunrise and dawn

thirty years of love
not perfect but they’re ours
challenges we take

Heeding Haiku With Chèvrefeuille, March 15th 2017 choices

choice

When one door closes, one opens
When the moon sets, rises the sun
We find what’s next to our action
With our problems, we can do tons
Lots of choices, which one to choose
And with that choice, sometimes we lose
Don’t despair, make the most of it
With determination and grit
Either swim with the flow or quit
Do what we can with all our wit
Cooperate or not, our choice
Let the others hear our own voice
Action, reaction, that follows
Highs or lows, we pay what we owe
Time carries on, even we doze
All these years, we have friends or foes
We have to keep our doors open
We can have fun, perhaps, we won

When the world seems black
And it’s not going our way
Fear not, there is hope

I know I probably wasn’t really awake. Maybe it was lucid dreaming. This playground used to be a centre of activity. Marielle and her feckless younger brother Joe loved the seesaw. Joe shouted “Put me down!” when he was up in the air for quite some time. I remembered his luminous but stained orange t-shirt. As for the twins, Dennis and Derrick, apart from their eyes and hair, they looked almost nothing alike. Dennis got this strongly chiselled feature and Derrick was naughtier, shouting “you, dumb boy!” feeling superior to his brother. They were always doing some sort of mischief, the best of friends and the worst of enemies. I also remembered the foreign boy Ameer, who’s always smartly dressed for playing. Now, they’re all grown up and left the place. Only the rusty swings and the hollow shell of this playground remain. I was still puzzling over this when I reached my little house.

Playground of the past

Children playing and shouting

Now they’re all grown up

crisp copper leaves falling off
chilling the air

on the mountain of the moon
when clouds do blot the heaven
there’s no sunshine

On one of my trips to the Philippines, I went to Hundred Islands with my family and friends. It was a great diversion from the hustle and bustle of the busy, urban life. The rice paddies, azure sea and the rustic and peaceful lifestyle were refreshing as we made our way to Alaminos City. And upon arrival, we savoured the city’s unique and dynamic spirit, friendly atmosphere and especially, the beauty and adventure that lies in the hundred wonders that is Hundred Islands. We stayed for three days and every morning, I waited for the rising of the sun. It was wonderful.

High virtue and grace

Rebirth of the sun
