University of Santo Tomas, the Catholic University of the Philippines was founded on 28 April 1611. It has the oldest extant university charter in the Philippines and in Asia, and is one of the world’s largest Catholic universities in terms of enrollment found on one campus.

The layout and architecture of medieval and baroque Bamberg exerted a strong influence on urban form and evolution in the lands of central Europe from the 11th century onwards. Bamberg is an outstanding and representative example of an early medieval town in central Europe, both in its plan and its surviving ecclesiastical and secular buildings.

The ancient theatre is the most important feature for sight-seers in Taormina, also because for its very fortunate natural setting, with splendid view toward the Calabrian coast, the Ionian coast of Sicily and the spectacular cone of Etna.

Cappadocia, a semi-arid region in central Turkey, is known for its distinctive “fairy chimneys,” tall, cone-shaped rock formations clustered in Monks Valley, Göreme and elsewhere. Other notables sites include Bronze Age homes carved into valley walls by troglodytes (cave dwellers) and later used as refuges by early Christians. The 100m-deep Ihlara Canyon houses numerous rock-face churches.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Travel

I love travelling
Places far and wide
Learn a lot from them
People, culture, fun
Alone or with you
Regrets I have none
Such joy travelling
I have always won

By car, plane or train
Doesn’t matter how
Doesn’t cause mayhem
I’ll do it again
Over and over
With or without rain
Cloudy or with sun
I have just begun*

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Falling Water

waterfall-one

There’s a secret path
Confined behind the waterfall
Magical garden
A place with strange creatures
Having a party
A cherry blossom party
I was invited
Nymphs, mermaids, fairies and others
Mythical creatures
All frolicking around and happy
Singing and dancing
Playing games, eating, drinking
Like there’s no tomorrow
In this breezy paradise
Where there’s no limit
Of what you like to achieve
I revere that view
I want to be part of that
I was mesmerised
From this brilliant dream
The alarm clock keeps buzzing
I need to wake up and work

Remember when the angels sing?
And we pause to listen?
When we smell the flowers?
And look forward to spring?
When we gasp for air after running a mile?
When we free the birds from some nasty snares?
And we tried to have a healthy lifestyle?
And we kissed not minding the stares?

I was beginning to feel all tingly as he gazed into the limpid pool of my eyes and professed his honourable intentions. Of course, I said yes. It was the day our life changed. Gone were the days when I just thought about me, now it’s “us” or “we”. How time flies! To think that when we started we were both students or trainees, had moved from a studio in Birmingham, a maisonette with Mrs. Booth in Nottingham (we were on the top floor and every week we played cards with Mrs. Booth, bless her soul), a flat in Ramersdorf, a split house in Unterhaching, now a terrace house with a garden in the south of Munich. HRH the son was born two years after we moved to Germany and we have been living here for the last 27 years.

We’ve gone through thick and thin, through being fit and healthy to all the illnesses and now trying to be as healthy as possible. We’ve cried together, laughed a lot, sometimes ignored each other, accepted each other with all our quirks and idiosyncrasy, had a lot of tiffs, and so on. But at the end of it, we’re best mates, soul mates if there are such things and we don’t mind spending the rest of our lives together.
