blossoms peering out from snow
on a cool morning

days are getting longer
warblers are singing
time to rejoice

and the sky, is it clearer?
just to be out give us thrills

the nightingale sings
the first greening of the grass
heralding of spring

snowdrop, crocus, daffodils
each one beautiful

Rondelet of Love

Thirty one years
They are not perfect but they’re ours
Thirty one years
Gone through a lot of cheers and tears
Seen a lot of sunsets and stars
Together we write our memoirs
Thirty one years*

* The Rondelet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain: AbAabbA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. The refrain is written in tetra-syllabic or dimeter and the other lines are twice as long – octasyllabic or tetrameter.

What do you do when you’re not working? If you are retired, what do you that is not part of your regular daytime routine?

I usually do some laundry and ironing, cooking, etc. Otherwise, I cycle and swim with Him Indoors and we love travelling to different places. When I’m with my friends, we meet for coffee or lunch, shopping or walk while we talk.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

I’d travel far and wide, see places we haven’t been and revisit the places we love. Buy HRH the son and his beautiful K a house of their own in a place of their choice. The rest of the money, donate to our favourite charities.

What makes you laugh the most?

Him Indoors, of course! He’s got this witty/dry humour. Also, some TV shows make me laugh, like Big Bang Theory, Two and a half Men, Friends, etc.

What is your biggest pet peeve with modern technology?

I have no patience with our dozen TV/dvd/etc. remote controls. I don’t watch any TV if Him Indoors is not there (I don’t mind, really, got other things to do).

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

We went to the UK last week and we had a great time. We visited HRH the son and his beautiful K in Southampton, went to Portsmouth for the Dockyard and celebrated with Him Indoors’ parents their 60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary in Coventry.

Tomorrow we’re celebrating our 31st Wedding Anniversary. We’ll probably cycle to our favourite Chinese Restaurant. I’ll order duck and Him Indoors will have his beef chillies, with a bottle of Sekt or some chilled Chablis. Bliss!

On Thursday we’re flying to Malta until Tuesday. We’ll celebrate Him Indoors birthday there.

Have a lovely week everyone!

HRH the son’s birthday!

sunshine

Hello everyone! This week we’re celebrating HRH the son’s birthday – 25 years – hip, hip, hurray!!! Happy birthday, son and many happy returns of the day!

HRH the son

The time really went so fast
We can still remember all the years
His first words that gave us cheers
The first time he crawled and walked
The first time he rode his bicycle
His first day of school with a big bag
Karate, music, choir, kung-fu, guitar
When we reminisce them they bring tears

snow 023

From primary years to senior years
He was showing some independence
Lots of friends, loves Maths and Science
Learns to drive, happy to have his license
Friends stayed overnight and had fun
Activities in school, soon time to leave
To another country to have his degree
We surely miss him but we had to let him go

wordless

Happy we all are
When the son rang and said
She said yes and soon they be wed
Gave her a charming sapphire ring
Lovely in her hands so they went-ahead

We are happy, Him Indoor and I
We can feel the son is so happy
We are happy he found his Sweetie
She’s very lovely, we all agree
They can plan their future, all coolly
We’re happy to share with you all
Something positive and exciting
The world is wonderful and brightly

The Weekly Smile 69 #weeklysmile

Hello everyone from a very cold Bavaria. The forecast for the next couple of days is more snow rain, oh well, good thing I haven’t put my winter stuff away yet. But we’ve just changed our tyres to summer tyres last week.

Having said that, I’m still smiling. I rang my mother yesterday and she’s fine, she’s been to her doctor’s and her medications have been adjusted to her needs. She also went to a dermatologist for her allergies. The renovation in her terrace is finished, so she’s back doing her day-to-day routines.

Him Indoors and I have booked some of our upcoming holidays. Next month, we’re going to the UK (his parents’ diamond wedding anniversary) and Malta (for his birthday and our anniversary). In July, I gave my friend a “wellness” gift – overnight stay in a thermal bath/spa hotel in Bad Fussing (I’ll be with her, of course!). In August, Him Indoors and I are going to Hamburg and Zell am See. In November, I’m going to Madrid with my cousin from Dormagen and my friend from Dusseldorf. Then in December, Christmas in the UK (to celebrate his mother’s 80th birthday), then New Year’s Day in the Philippines (for my mother’s 80th birthday, too). We’ll be staying in the Philippines for a couple of weeks, then travel to Singapore and Bali. Looking forward to travelling and celebrating.

Have a great week everyone. What made you smile this week?

Would you prefer to receive a unicycle, bicycle, tricycle or motorcycle?
A bicycle – I love cycling and we cycle the whole summer or when the weather is good. It’s a must here in Bavaria, to have a bicycle.

What is one thing you’d like to accomplish this year?
I say it every year – I’ll try to lose weight and be healthy – exercise, eating wisely, but it’s not that easy. Oh well, try and try until I’ve made it!

What was one of the highlights of 2016 for you?
HRH the son and his beautiful bride’s wedding in the UK and in India.

Would you prefer to fly a kite or fly in a hot air balloon?
I’ve flown a kite before, but not in a hot air balloon. Perhaps, it’s not a bad idea. One day…

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Last couple of weeks were wonderful. We celebrated Christmas with Him Indoors’ parents (from the UK) and then HRH the son and his beautiful bride came after Christmas, so we greeted the New Year with them, too. They left last night, so it’s just me and Him Indoors again.
The week coming up, we’re back to normal – work a couple of hours a day, meet friends for coffee or shopping, go to the gym (promise!).
Have a lovely week everyone 🙂

Writing Prompt #5 – Favourite memory of 2016

Writing Prompt #5 – Favourite memory of 2016

writing-prompt-5-fav-memory-of-2016

The year 2016 was a very important year for us. It was the year of travel, love and marriage. We celebrated our Pearl Wedding Anniversary (30 years). We went to the Philippines, Singapore and Cambodia in February to celebrate it. I flew to the Philippines first and took my mother and aunt to Hong Kong. Then after 10 days, Him Indoors followed. We went to the beautiful island of Coron in Palawan, then stayed some days in Manila to see friends and relatives. We flew to Singapore and visited Him Indoors’ brother and family, then off to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat. That was our 30 years wedding anniversary celebration.

In May, HRH the son and his beautiful K got married in the UK. The son was 24 and K – 23. It was a lovely wedding in Towcester and families from Canada, Ireland, India and Philippines came, as well as friends from the UK and Germany. There were 200 guests. Then, in August, their Indian wedding/reception in the south of India, Cochin. K’s family were there, as well as us, and Him Indoors’ brothers and their families. There was a three-day wedding reception, with henna party and the ceremony in a temple. More than 500 guests came.

Then we went on a tour around the south of India, from Cochin to Thekaddy. We had a boat trip, tea-plantation visit, tiger reserve tour, spice tour, etc. It was an experience of a lifetime.

Note: I’ve just found a new challenge, Boundless Challenge and I thought I’d join in. It wasn’t last week’s events, but last year’s. Hope it’s still alright. Promise, I’ll do better next week.
