“Normality is a paved road
It’s comfortable to walk
But no flowers grow on it”
There’s truth in Van Gogh’s quote
What is “normal” in the first place?
We all have different criteria for
Normality, but even then perhaps
When we are in our comfort zone
Or people do what was expected of us
In this context of life, people and things
Normal always resonates a feeling of
Contentment and that’s a good thing, right?
On the other hand, life is short and we should
Live it as if it’s the last day of our lives
There is beauty in stepping outside of our
Comfort zone and experiencing things that
Aren’t in our nature. It encourages growth
And excitement within our lives. So much
More like individuality, uniqueness, fun,
Creativity, achievement, challenge and
Venturing out. Testing how far we can go
Testing our limits, it’s called living a life!

Finish the story begins with: “I watched the vulture looking at me hungrily as I lay on the ground bleeding and injured.”
My heart’s pounding, wallowing in self-pity with the stark reality that anytime now, when worse comes to worst and I’m dead, the vulture will strike and take me for his dinner. Why didn’t I see that big rock? Or why didn’t I take another cyclist with me? We could have then helped each other while training or circling this path for the race. I stopped and listened while I lay on this concrete ground, straining my ears for any sound. “Help!” I shouted. Then my face was illuminated by a smile. Two hitchhikers were coming to my rescue.

It’s been a month since he’d seen her the last time. They’ve spent almost the entire winter holiday together. In a country that was a long way from his. Then they kissed. They kissed often. And when he had to leave it almost broke him. She would be here in a couple of minutes. Not long now. But how would it be? What if their reunion wouldn’t be the way he was hoping for? What if the chemistry was no longer there? What if the fire was no longer burning?
Please continue…
Conall paced up and down the hall. He managed to get away from his family on the pretence of working away. It was also good that the project was not finished yet, so his boss sent him to this place for another month. A month! One long month with Mandy, he could hardly wait. God, he missed her so much. The way she flicked her hair, the way she pouts when something upsets her, her mincing of words and all the little things she does. That winter was like being in seventh heaven, if there’s such a place like that. Not long now. Then, he heard the familiar sound of her car being parked in front of the cottage. He knew she’d seen his car. Her quickening steps toward the house and her “Darling, you’ve come back!” made all his worries gone. With open arms, they kissed! “Welcome back, Darling!”

His heart was heavy. He had to find the right words to let her know. It would be a shock for her and he wasn’t sure how she would handle the news. Why? He had asked himself that question thousands of times over the last thirty minutes. Why? Somehow there had to be an answer for it. If only he could come up with one before he had to tell her.

The situation has polarised into two competing opinions. Should he tell her or not? His love for her should be selfless. He should stop being a posey and tell her the truth. But can she handle it? If he carries on with astonishing lack of discernment and stick with the lies, then that’s not fair for her. Sooner or later, the flames of their loves will turn to ashes and joy will turn to fear. That’s a lot to handle. He should tell her who he really is. He should reveal his true identity. That he’s not from this world. That he was summoned to go back to where he came from. That it hurt him to leave her but he has to do what was commanded of him. He was able to accomplish his mission on earth and now it’s time to go home.

Creativity Challenge 39 – Silence

In this technicolour but sometimes Stygian world, I feel inept of handling things. The confusion and betrayal make me frustrated and lonely. The silence of the moon geminates some sour events into words. However much it grates on my nerves, something in the back of my mind tells me to leave it as it is. I make the whirling world stand still. Sometimes I feel like a torsional puppet being manipulated. Very rare that I resort to drinking razorwine. Without you, my world is empty. Ah, the grim realities of life.

– Maciej Koniuszy

There’s a barely controlled abandon, and more than a hint of anxiety that once the act of inscription has begun, it can’t be undone. The scars were there, along with the stench of betrayal. In the silence of the sea, I could pretend to fly, to get away from this demanding world. My scarlet heart bleeds, with lament in verse. But as I looked around me on this golden hour, with the clear sky, the refreshing breeze, birds flying in the air, I knew there’s still hope. I should put my shoes on and start treading again. I should play the game of life and have fun again. Nothing could hold me back.

deep silence of nature
what a great world down under

The ground beneath my feet begins to crumble
I’m left with nothing to hold on to, null
I have to admit, I have lost the battle

You are there, so far away, unreachable
I say this, you say that, misunderstanding
Causing pain in the heart and soul, shattering

For what I’ve done, I’m blameful
The world is against me, my fight is extinguished
You have abandoned me, the one I cherished

Forget the pain and move on, as I mull
I’ve learned my lesson, time to rise again
Rainbows and sunshine, all beyond my ken

There’s still hope, do what I’m able
Count my blessing and prove my worth
Try and do my best being part of this earth

hush, my dear, hush
I kept my silence
longer than I thought
but then things are
bubbling up inside
they’ve got to be released
or else I pop or crack up
you said things won’t change
you said you won’t ever leave me
you said you love me no matter what
you said a lot of things
things that made me tingle
things that made me melt
but oh, how naive I could be
I thought you won’t hurt me
I thought you won’t leave me
I thought things would be the same
let me tell you this right now
I cried, I felt the pain and hurt
and then time helped me to move on
I knew it wasn’t my loss, it was yours

Ngunit wala akong kamuwang-muwang

The meeting at the café was supposed to be quick and easy, but it quickly became complicated. My friend hasn’t arrived yet so I decided to queue at the coffee shop.

“Can I have a cup of coffee, please?” I said loudly at the barista.

“Which one, Sir?”

“White, no sugar” I answered.

“We don’t just have coffee, Sir. We have Latte, Americano, Capuccino, Espresso… have a look at our list and tell us what you want.” He’s trying to be patient.

“All these choices… uhmm, OK, can I have a Café Latte, please?”

“How big would you like it, Sir?”

“Oh, just a small one.”

“OK, one TALL Café Latte. To drink here or take out?”

“Here, I’m drinking it here.” And a big sigh of relief.

“Anything else, Sir?”

“No, no, that’s enough for today.”

“That would be €2.75.”

“I don’t have a change. Have you got a change for €20?”
on my bike

I sigh in relief, the scar is gone
As I bring about a lengthy yawn
It’s plain to see, a vigorous process
I have to address the problem, I guess
Ingesting the news and carrying it
You helped me, I’ll give you the credit
The chime is ringing, not silent anymore
Listening is the key, I know that therefore
I’m laughing once more, finding humour at last
Enjoying life again, I managed to surpassed
Not pale and alone as I stray in the blackness
It has to stop sometime, for simile’s aptness
Holy Molly, I finally arrived, though a bit late
Time to be happy and of course, to celebrate
Better late than never, that’s my motto
Never too late to mature and grow

Barney was struck by the swiftness of what followed. Three months ago, he was revising to take his A-Level exams. He worked hard for it, thinking that his future depended on the results of the exams. He already got a reply from the first and second universities of his choice that they would take him, provided he reached the required grades. He was thinking of taking Engineering.

Then, there was Carmina who came to him one day telling him about her problem and asking for his help. Carmina is also doing her A-Levels this year and wants to do Chemistry at the university. They have been friends since they were in their primary years. Carmina said that she thinks she’s pregnant but she doesn’t want Mathew to know about it. In the first place, they were not together anymore. He has got a new girlfriend, Nerissa.

Barney and Carmina thought of some way to get rid of the baby. They’ve searched the internet for some refutable clinics which could perform the operation. They were really nervous about it because they knew the risks involved. They have put together what cash they had to pay for the operation. Carmina said she’s got some savings from her part-time job she does at the library. Barney also has got some savings from the money that was given to him for his birthdays and Christmases.

The weekend when they were set to go to the clinic, Carmina knocked at his door and was beaming with happiness. “Let’s go for a walk first.” When they were few blocks from his house, she announced: “Guess what, Barney, we don’t have to go, I was just delayed and it came this morning. Could you believe it, we’re spared!” They both heaved a sigh of relief and started talking about their future. After another few blocks of high-spirited conversation, Barney realised, “now, I really know what euphoric means.”

This week’s photo prompt is provided by, Louise, author of the blog, “The Storyteller’s Abode.” Thank you Louise!

In the empyreal blue sky, I’m hoping I can track your last movement. Like a bloodcrow eager to find some treasure, I’m as fanatic as my feet allow. Perhaps I’d be able to reach your spirit in this quaint town. From my research, I read that your veins run in this part of town. Forget the apathy of some people, I’m hopeful for some aperture where I can throw myself in. You could say it’s an obsession, I’d say that I’m just curious like any admirer of a famous person. I dread the time when I have to stop all these and just accept the fact that you’ll never come back.

We have to walk first before we run
The moon comes at night and then the sun
Eat the right food to give us enough energy
As we drink water from a pitcher in the sea
Practice something before we can preach
I stand in earnest eyes with arms outreach
In my view, there’s always a path or method
Research everything with references cited
Take a deep breath and think before we act
Don’t pepper it with one-liners and witty wisecrack
Don’t pick fights or use weapons if we can choose
Otherwise we’ll end up with some bruise

Road of my life wasn’t smooth sailing
Things around the world are baffling
I’ve gone through a lot of crisis
I have to prove my braveness
I was given severe trouncing
Life could be tough and gruelling
Experienced some force of nature
Like fire, typhoon and earthquakes
I had to fight to live and survive
That’s probably how I thrive
Never mind the irony of the situation
I’m fully sympathetic to the plight of others
I understand what they were going through
I comprehend their issues on crossing borders
Thanks to my experience, I’ve got deep insight

Creativity Challenge 36 – Invigorate

i-am-invigorated

A story of strength and spirit
Grandparents lived in a hamlet
A fire burning in the hearth
A spark of light, lay it thwart
Grandpa sat with his defiant mood
For several hours the situation brewed
An ancient game he played with Grandma
A status quo both of them not foresaw
Grandma stuck to her ground in darkness
She thought she was right and blameless
Angry sparks were flashing in her eyes
But after some time with all the sighs
They argued, they fought and they made up
The process continued but never a breakup
And like the unperfected Polaroid
They lived a life they both enjoyed
It should fade into oblivion in no time
Their love won and forever sublime

the trees in the forest
with the tall mossy pines
their shadows on either side
lifted their branches to the sky
inspiring my mind to heady heights
imagination run high as I walk in the woods
I need the forest for my soul to recharge
for the trees give me strength and hope
and the sound of the birds and bees
as they spread seedlings
and the wind embraces me
ah! bliss and happiness

Christmas has finally come
Bless godfather and godmother
Love is for the whole world
Let’s all celebrate Christmas

The crumpled paper and tinsel meant that all presents were given and opened, greetings and thanks were said, the waiting and the excitement really happened. They also meant that another Christmas has come and gone, that we all celebrated it in different ways, usually with our loved ones. Having said that, we should also think of others who celebrated it by themselves, or who cannot celebrate it for some reason or another. That we should be thankful for all our blessing, the good and the bad things that happened to us, and hopefully learning our lessons in life. Cheers everyone!
