Tale Weaver – #163 – Aging – 15th March

old woman portrait vietnam three tamarind m’nong

I was rummaging through the attic
in the filth, searching for some documents
old memento, toys and games of our antic
brown faded photos of our descents

I found an old photograph of a woman
she was beautiful, I save it as my keepsake
lines on her face tell us experience she’d done
her eyes conveyed her joy, hope and ache

an enigma, seducing me to deconstruct
I can feel her wraith in my zone
enlightening me of proper conduct
her past mistakes to atone

her alexithymia makes me want to express
something she wasn’t able to do
perhaps she was in distress
if only I could have a cue

like colouring her life with crayons
through the convex lens the search
looking for truth, spending aeons
thinking of it as my research

We’re nearly there and we have to keep going
Praise the Lord for managing to continue
Look, I could see a glint of assurance at the end
The overgrown garden with herbs is my witness
Hush, don’t feel guilty for not doing other things
As the leaves sway with the winds, be happy
Our sense of woe slowly disappearing
We are compelled to continue until the end
To give us some sort of satisfaction and hope

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is an open-air museum and heritage park in Bagac, Bataan, Philippines. Spread over 400 hectares, the park features a collection of 27 Spanish Colonial buildings and stone houses (bahay na bato in Tagalog), planned to resemble a settlement reminiscent of the period. These houses were carefully dismantled, brick by brick, transplanted from different parts of the Philippines and rehabilitated in these premises, to resemble the original structure. For parts that were missing, woodwork and bricks were replicated to resemble the original structure. For this, the Ciudad employs a workforce of 130 people, including 10 wood sculptors, three metal sculptors, 30 craftsmen who design ceilings, and construction workers. There are also five architects, two of whom are historical architects, and two artists. The resort also has a restaurant, a beach, calesa rides and a swimming pool. Touched by An Angel by Maya Angelou

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

Lord We Thank You by Raymond A. Foss

Lord, We thank you for this day,
for the joy of the morning,
the love of this family, waking from slumber
in this house, this home you have provided,
going out into the world, to college, to school,
to work, into the world, not of this world,
for you have touched our hearts and our lives,
have cleaned some of the grime of this life,
some of our scar tissue, to give us peace.
Grant us peace this day Lord, watch over us
be with us on the path you have laid before us
this day we pray our creator and sustainer
help us focus on what we must do today,
help us be satisfied, gratified, with what we do
in your name today Lord.
Give us strength for today and rest tonight Lord
so we may do your will and your work
today and the rest of our lives as individuals
as a family in your name

Birthday and Christkindlmarkt

Hello everyone from a stormy Munich. We’ve just got back from our morning swim, even though it was very windy outside. Just swam indoors most of the time. The jacuzzi is still great!

Anyway, last weekend, I celebrated my birthday. I’ve got a lovely gold bracelet from Him Indoors, pyjamas from parents-in-law, cardigan from cousin B, cards and FB greetings from families and friends. Thanks everyone!

We went to the Christkindlmarkt, first in Münchner Freiheit, the “arty” one, lots of hand-mades and sculptures in the market.

Then to Marienplatz, with the big Christmas tree in front of the town hall. We had sausages and mulled wine and looked around the stalls.

And in the evening, we went to our favourite Greek restaurant with friends N and R. Then went back to our place for a bottle of champagne and some mince pies. It was a wonderful birthday! Very grateful!

Nurturing Thursday

Hello everyone! Lovely day here, bright cold day. Him Indoors cooked lasagne the other day and he took step-by-step photos of his delicious meal. First, he chopped onions, crushed garlic and minced the meat. Fried them with some oil. Added a tin of tomatoes. Boiled. Added a dash of red wine. Simmered. Prepared a dish, put the sauce, then lasagne sheets alternately, then added creme fraiche and cheese and Italian herbs on top. Baked in the oven 180 degrees, for 30 to 40 minutes, or until brown. Voila – Him Indoors’ lasagne!

It’s beginning to look like Christmas in our house…

Have a great week everyone!
