Malta 134

We spent a week in Malta, which is a tiny island country comprising of an archipelago of 7 islands in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s just south of Sicily and east of Tunisia. It must have been the world’s smallest and most densely populated country.

We spent some days going to museums and the St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valetta, their capital. Valetta is a fortified city built by the knights. The Cathedral is an amazing place, with Caravaggio masterpieces in the Oratory, the Flemish tapestries and the church museum. In the Archeological Museum, there was a 100-objects exhibit for the 50 years of their being independent. We found some interesting objects, one of them is the St. George’s cross given to Malta.

Traffic in Malta drive on the left. It was easy to take buses there – for €1.50 day ticket, we could go anywhere on the island. Needless to say, we saw lots of lovely places, MDina, Malta’s former capital city, Hagar Qim prehistoric temples, limestone quarries, Marsaxlokk – a quaint fishing village and other places we couldn’t even pronounced! We also walked a lot, with their narrow, winding streets, limestone buildings in different styles of architecture, old houses, Siculo-Norman palaces, the panoramic view of the island, etc. What a brilliant experience!

  1. Are the bus drivers still over enthusiastic about their driving with possibly an over reliance in their beliefs?!
