Hello everyone! Part two of our holiday in Hamburg. Him Indoors is a big fan of model railways. We bought the tickets online so we didn’t have to queue for hours to see them. Miniatur Wunderland is a model railway attraction and the largest of its kind in the world. The railway is located in the historic Speicherstadt district of the city.

St. Peter’s Cathedral stands on the site of many former cathedrals. Built by order of Pope Leo X, it has been a Protestant cathedral since the Reformation and its congregation forms part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany. The best known artworks in St Peter’s are the lion-head door handles, located in the left wing of the west portal. However, the cathedral contains many additional works of art.

The Elbphilharmonie is a concert hall in the HafenCity quarter of Hamburg, Germany, on the Grasbrook peninsula of the Elbe River. It is one of the largest and most acoustically advanced concert halls in the world. It is popularly nicknamed Elphi.

We walked along the harbour.

We had lunch at the Portuguese quarter.

  5. Our son would have loved seeing the model railroad attraction when he was a little boy who was fascinated by all things related to trains.
It would be wonderful to be able to attend a concert in the Elphi.
Thank you for sharing these photos of the places you went.

  6. Wow, I’m really impressed by the model railway. I think my Dad would have liked that as he had a model railway too but it wasn’t as elaborate as that! Sounds like you had a great time 🙂

  8. We spent hours at model railways when our son was young! I didn’t know about this one or likely we’d have been dragged there. 🙂 🙂 Cool looking concert house too! Many thanks for the share, Lady Lee.

  11. This is a wonderful exhibit – so real life-like! Can see it was busy – good thinking to get tickets ahead:) The Reformation had a great influence on Germany at that time. Joined hubby after getting married in Berlin – he worked there at that time in drug rehab. and one of the biggest donors was the Luthern church and Landes Kirche. – beautiful cathedral! Thank you from All Seasons, dear Blog Friend and “see” you in two weeks!

  12. Fantastic photos! Before I read that it was a miniature railway, I wondered if you had a drone to take photos. What a fascinating set up. I could spend hours there. Your photographs capture the magic of that creation. That symphony hall is spectacular in its silveriness and angles. Perhaps we will make it to Hamburg one day. Thanks for sharing your trip!

  15. I think this was your most wonderful travel adventure yet, LadyLee! My Papa Bear would have loved that amazing miniature railway exhibit, every tiny detail so perfect, a child’s fantasy in grown-up form! I love the old cathedrals too. We attended Christmas Eve services at the Muenster Cathedral in Ulm Germany when I lived there, and it was so incredibly beautiful with the huge pipe organ playing Christmas hymns in the gorgeous setting. We also climbed to the top of the main steeple for a wonderful view of the city below. The concert hall is such a modern design with no doubt amazing accoustics, and I loved the harbor walk too. So much to see and do there, along with good food to enjoy. I am thankful you are able to make such fun memories to keep for a lifetime, thank you for sharing them with us! XOXO
